Lepus timidus : The art of Francesca Zambon

The art of Francesca Zambon

Lepus timidus

You know by now how obsessed I am with lagomorphs. They hold a special fascination for me.
This is an European mountain hare in its winter coat. I think this may be the animal with the best scientific name ever: Lepus timidus, literally “timid/fearful hare” (I concede the possible exception of the huntsman spider, Heteropoda davidbowie. Warning in case you click the link, it contains, you guessed it, pictures of spiders).

I used a photo as a reference for this painting but I literally forgot the author (I follow several wildlife photographers and many of them publish an extensive collection of beautiful rabbit and hare pictures). If the photo is yours, please contact me, I will credit you in full.

Oil on canvas, 30 x 30 cm
